UTAG Strike:Shut Down University Of Ghana- NUGS demands
If the school’s instructors are not ready to return to the lecture halls, the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) is requesting that the University of Ghana, Legon (UG) be closed immediately.
The University of Ghana’s section of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) decided not to return to the lecture halls after an emergency meeting on Sunday, February 27.
Professor Ransford Yaw Gyampo, the UG-UTAG Secretary, wrote to the Registrar of UG, saying the academics will wait until the end of negotiations between UTAG and the government by the Friday, March 4 deadline before resuming classes.
However, NUGS referred to UG-resolution UTAG’s as “rather unfortunate”. Later in the day, the mother student union declared in a tweet: “Students cannot continue to bear the brunt of this strike action. “If the teaching is nowhere in sight, shut down the school.”
