
Two Robbers Jailed For 40 Years
Atitso Korshie, 23, and Wisdom Dzeke, 25, have been sentenced to 40 years in prison for robbing some shopkeepers at Kpogedi Zongo near Aflao in the Volta Region’s Ketu South Municipality.
Following a trial, the Aflao Circuit Court, presided over by His Lordship Joseph Ofosu Behome, convicted them guilty of robbery, inflicting hurt, and unlawfully carrying guns under the Criminal Offences Act, 1960. (Act 29).
The two will serve their time in hard labor after being sentenced on Wednesday, April 27, 2022.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Bob Wuda said the prisoners and two others (now at large) attacked a house in Kpogedi Zongo, a suburb of Aflao, on September 24, 2020, at approximately 2.00 a.m., armed with a machete and a 5-round Taurus Ultra Lite 38 special revolver pistol.
The property had been targeted by the burglars to steal three brand new motorcycles. Nigerian businessmen live at the mansion.
The criminals took four of the inhabitants hostage while firing the weapon at the roofing during the heist.
They took the victims’ phones as well as Ghc250 in cash.
The gunshots and screams of the victims drew the attention of nearby residents, who rushed into the walled house to help the victims.
When the imprisoned Wisdom Dzeke and two other Togolese suspects saw the gathering, they fled, leaving Atitso Korshie trapped in the house with the pistol.
During his arrest, Atitso fired a shot at Ahmed Zibo, a 23-year-old man.
