Three children drowned in a stagnant water caused by sand winners at Akwasa Hills near Tuba in the Ga South Municipality of Greater Accra Region.
Elisha Adu, 12, Samuel Adjei Mensah, 9, and their friend Isaac Amoah, 8, were all killed.
The deceased were riding their bicycles and playing beside a pit made by illegal sand weaning in the region, according to sources.
The tragedy has been blamed on the Ga South municipal Assembly by the area’s chief, Nii Akadja.
He begs the Assembly to cover the hole and put an end to the sand weaning in the area.
The bodies of the deceased have been sent to the mortuary at the Police Hospital for autopsy.
