Tension At Krobo Between Residents, Military And ECG Team

There is unrest at Nuaso, a suburb of the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality in the Eastern Region, as a result of an altercation between some irate residents who erupted in protest on Monday morning against the military’s presence and the installation of prepaid meters without consulting the neighborhood.

The military and the employees of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) were compelled to leave the area due to the tense atmosphere.

The ECG team and the military, however, came back later in the day to carry out the exercise.

Locals from Kpongunor, who had just started a similar protest, mobilized and invaded Nuaso to help the populace in their resistance against the military and ECG officials.

The military and the ECG team left the area after engaging the chiefs and Assembly members for a community engagement on the exercise Tuesday before they resumed because they sensed a violent clash coming.

Raymond Newton, an assemblyman from Nuaso, stated that since the neighborhood’s inhabitants require information regarding prepaid meters, he is optimistic that the community participation ECG he agreed to on Tuesday will ease tensions.

He nevertheless pleaded with ECG to restart the community’s power after it purportedly shut it off as a result of the opposition.
