Sunyani-Baakoniaba: 16-Bedroom House Gutted By Fire
A 16-bedroom house in Baakoniaba, a Sunyani suburb, was destroyed by fire, displacing 45 people.
The fire broke out at 10:35 a.m., destroying property and personal things worth millions of Ghana cedis.
Although no one was injured, the Ghana National Incident Service (GNFS) said it was investigating the cause of the fire.
The fire originated in a locked wooden kitchen that held LPG cylinders attached to the house, according to Linus Dapilah, a victim.
However, a bystander, Frank Adjei Nyarko, said that after calling the GNFS, some residents in the neighborhood tried to put out the fire, but that by the time the firefighters came, the fire had grown to deadly proportions and efforts to put it out were futile.
The Bono Regional Operations Officers of the GNFS, Divisional Officer Grade III (DOIII) Ignatius N-Noekor, who led a team of firefighters, claimed the fire tender had a pump failure when they arrived on the scene.
