Spiritualist Bags Death Sentence Over Murder Of Wife, Daughter
Mbawona Tindana, a 38-year-old traditional spiritualist, was condemned by the Bolgatanga High Court for killing his wife and daughter and offering them to his idols.
“May the Almighty God and Allah have mercy on your soul as I sentence you to death” were the last words of the Judge at the Bolgatanga High Court.
Tindana pled not guilty to two counts of murder under section 46 of the Criminal Offences Act of 1960, Act 29.
However, the Court presided over by Mr. Charles Adjei Wilson, Regional Supervising High Court Judge, found Tindana guilty and condemned him to death based on a unanimous vote from a seven-member jury Tindana himself selected.
Tindana is a self-acclaimed traditional spiritualist from Kulpeliga in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region, according to prosecuting Senior State Attorney Mrs. Joyce Debrah, and the husband and father of the deceased, 25-year-old Talata Abigail Kurug and two-year-old Nyapoka Mbawona Tidana.
Tindana had accused his wife and daughter of being witches, according to the prosecution.
According to the prosecution, on June 27, 2019, at about 4:30 pm, the deceased wife was informed by their son that the Tindan, who is also the ‘Tindana’ for the area, had killed and sacrificed his sister to the gods.
According to the prosecution, the deceased returned to the house and saw his daughter dead in a pool of blood, her brains scattered.
According to the prosecution, the dead slumped from shock, and the accused pounced, hitting her in the head with an axe and a machete, killing her as well as their daughter.
He also struck his kid with the matchet, but the youngster managed to flee and was rescued by young people playing football near their home, who rushed him to the hospital for treatment.
According to the prosecution, an eyewitness who witnessed the incident was unable to save them owing to Tindana’s axe and machete, so she hid and subsequently called the police, who arrived and detained the accused.
According to the police report, two people were found dead in a pool of blood with an axe and a machete splattered with blood on the ground beside them.
According to the medical report, the dead was struck by strong objects, resulting in major head injuries that resulted to their death.
