A man is being held at the Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters after he gruesomely murdered a pregnant woman and her young relative on Sunday (June 19).

Godfred Aladago, 25, of Atobra, near Tepa, is believed to have approached the victims after their goats wandered and caused damage to his land.

He attacked the two victims with a machete and killed them both instantly. After committing the crime, he went to the police station and reported himself.

Later, a mob of enraged adolescents surrounded the Tepa police station, demanding his quick release so that they might lynch him.

Some locals who have witnessed the horrific scene want the suspect to face the full force of the law.

“I got wind of the information following a distress call and so I rushed to the police station to make enquiries. The suspect was seen with knife wounds and had reported himself to the police. He had also been overpowered by the police who retrieved the weapon from him as exhibits. He has since been placed in custody. I joined the police to the scene and I was shocked to find the bodies lying lifeless. This is barbaric and the man must be brought to justice,” a resident said.

“We demand justice”, a relative, Inusah Ibrahim. She[the pregnant woman] is a relative and the entire family is shocked. This is so sad and we want the police to speed up investigations into the incident”.

Superintendent Martin Assenso, Tepa Divisional Police Commander, confirmed th incident and stated the subject has been sent to the Regional Police CID for further investigation.

“We have handed over the suspect and the dockets to the Regional CID. They are now handling the case”, the police chief.
