The Regional Public Affairs Unit under the Accra Regional Police Command in a press release by Chief Inspector Bright Danso, said on Sunday, May 29, 2022, they have received a notice from Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah, Captain Godsbrain Smart, Benjamin Darko, and Oliver Barker-Vormawor intended to embark on three days demonstration in Accra starting on 4th June 2022.

According to the demonstrators, they intend to provide their own private security company to protect them during the demonstration and the private security personnel will fully be armed with weapons.

Also, the demonstrators will be a guard at Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) and the Ghana Police Headquarters to be precise while at the GBC they will talk to the general populace on GTV and share their grievances with them.

But the police said they are ready and willing to provide the necessary protection for any lawful demonstration in the country however the service is of the view that the nature and character of their demonstration are inconsistent with the Public Order Act.

However, “we are therefore unable to provide security for a demonstration which is in flagrant violation of the Public Order Act, 1994 (Act 49) and has the potential to result in a breach of public order public.”

The Service is calling on the organizers to reconsider their proposal and work with the police towards the organization of a lawful, peaceful, and successful demonstration.

Police assure the public that their safety and security are their concern and also ensure that unauthorized persons do not match the streets with weapons.
