
One Suspected Thief Tortured To Death, One Other Injured
One suspected thief had been tortured to death by a mob in Betom a suburb of New Juaben South Municipality in the Eastern Region.
The unidentified suspect is reported dead after he was rushed to the Eastern Regional Hospital.
The incident which occurred on Tuesday September 28 dawn saw one other also brutalized but sustained serious injuries.
The two victims with other accomplices allegedly attempted to steal big Aluminum cooking pots belonging to a Chop bar operator at Betom.
Upon alarm, they initially managed to escape but luck eluded the two who were arrested by some youth.
The mob brutalized and tortured the two suspects and inflicted nail and cutlass wounds on them.
After rendering them immobile and sensing danger that the suspects may die, the mob dragged and abandoned them at the Apenteng Hall area.
This attracted many residents and passersby during the morning to mass up around the suspects who were bleeding from their multiple injuries.
As to whether he knew what could have helped him survive, one of the suspects pleaded for water and porridge and bread which a good Samaritan provided him.
Police subsequently came to their rescue and sent them to the Eastern Regional Hospital where one was reportedly pronounced dead.
Anger of the resident stemmed from the recent burglary and theft cases which have plagued the New Juaben Municipality.
