
One Dead, 10 Others Missing As Vessel Sinks
One person has died and ten others have gone missing after a fishing vessel sunk last Friday at Elmina offshore is still missing.
The captain of the vessel has been retrieved from the vessel and the body is believed to be a Chinese while over twenty (20) mariners of both Ghanaian and Chinese nationality
alongside.
The Western Regional Director of the Fisheries Commission, Joseph Yeboah, confirmed to the News to Accra-based radio station that fourteen (14) life have been saved with ten(10) more still missing.
“The accident happened on Friday afternoon and some two of the mariners managed to swim till they were picked up by a sister vessel around 10 pm,” Mr. Yeboah said.
According to Mr. Yeboah, “The vessel went back to the incident scene to search and picked some three more mariners including the Captain, who was already dead. Nine (9) others were picked up by a canoe and were sent to Elmina and later went to Tema. All fifteen (15) mariners were recovered with the Captain dead and others injured. There are 10 more mariners still been searching for now.“
