Ofankor-Nsawam Road Project Starts July 20
The Ofankor-Nsawam section of the Accra-Kumasi highway will be rebuilt as part of a GH341.48m project that will start on July 20, 2022.
The 33.4 km dual carriageway rehabilitation project, which will take 24 months to complete, is scheduled to begin on July 19 and be finished on July 19, 2024, according to the Ministry of Roads and Highways.
The project, which will be carried out by Messrs. Maripoma Enterprise Limited, is intended to enhance the current carriageway and is a part of National Route Six (N6), Ghana’s most cost-effective route connecting Accra, the country’s capital, to Kumasi, the country’s second-largest city and the capital of the Ashanti Region.
The route also acts as a vital arterial for settlements in the Ga West Municipal Assembly, including Pokuase, Amasaman, Medie, and Sarpeiman, according to a statement from the ministry.
Once more, the road provides a crucial connection for trade between Ghana and other landlocked nations like Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger as well as for the movement of transit cargo from Ghana’s ports to these nations.
“The strategic location of the Ofankor-Nsawam road makes it one of the most important links in Ghana’s network as it serves the northern, central, western, and southern parts of the country, thereby generating a huge band of influence on the transportation for the people of Ghana,” the statement noted.
The Roads and Highways Ministry stated that as part of the project, the current asphaltic concrete pavement would be rebuilt, the main carriageway would be expanded from two lanes to three lanes, including service lanes, 11 safe pedestrian crossing facilities would be provided, four interchanges would be provided, adequate drainage structures would be provided, streetlights would be provided, and traffic signs and road markings would be provided.
