Man Who Planned To Use His Daughter For Rituals Denied Bail
The Domestic Violence and Victim Support Centre Court in Accra has denied Evans Kyekyeku Oppong bail after he allegedly planned to sacrifice his daughter for money rituals.
The accused is facing a provisional accusation of trying to murder in front of the court.
On June 3, 2022, he was arrested after he allegedly took his 11-year-old daughter to a herbalist in Oyibi Kom, Accra, to have her killed to become wealthy.
The court presided over by Magistrate Ama Adomako Kwakye, denied the accused person’s motion for bail, and ordered him to appear in court on July 4th.
Counsel for the accused, Ralph Agyepong, pleaded with the court to grant him bail pending the committal after Chief Inspector Amoah Richard prayed the court to adjourn the case to allow them to conduct further investigations into the matter.
The prosecutor had stated that they had not completed their investigations, stating that because the case included a first-degree felony and the severity of the punishment, they needed to look into the subject further.
As a result, he requested an extension to allow them to investigate the case and transmit a duplicate docket to the Attorney General’s Office for guidance.
The accused person’s lawyer subsequently asked the court for bail, stating that the circumstances do not appear to substantiate the charge leveled against his client.
Mr. Agyepong stated that the question is whether or not when a person visits a Juju man, that person will choose or ask the Juju man what he wishes to bring.
The prosecution argued that the court lacked jurisdiction to try the case and, as a result, it lacked jurisdiction to grant the accused person bail.
In her judgment, Magistrate Ama Adomako Kwakye stated that the case had not been unjustly delayed and that the court does not believe the facts contradict the indictment.
She stated that the court lacked jurisdiction to grant the defendants bail and advised them to file a bail application with the High Court.
Following the hearings, the accused, who was shackled, nearly pounced on a journalist who sought to photograph him in the courtyard of the court.
