Man 26, Arrested After 5-Year-Old Missing Child Was Found In Walewale
A 26-year-old man has been arrested by the West Mamprusi Municipal Police Command for allegedly abducting a 5-year-old schoolgirl who went missing in Walewale on February 21, 2022.
The abduction of the youngster had sparked dread and panic among parents, who were threatened with having their children barred from attending certain municipal schools.
Following the spread of photographs of the missing girl on social media after her disappearance, the suspect, Solomon Awumbriga, 26, was detained on the 18th of March 2022 at Mirigu in the Kasena-Nakana municipality of the Upper East Region.
According to the police, the suspect (Solomon Awumbriga) was questioned by his relatives about who the child was and where she came from when he arrived home with her.
However, the suspect informed his relatives that he has a wife who lives outside of the Upper East Region and that the daughter he brought home was theirs.
According to the North East Regional Police PRO, Robbert Annabik, the suspect’s mother informed him that if he does not find a lady to create grandkids for her before she dies, he should not attend her burial.
“Our investigations so far revealed that he met the child returning from school and lured her that he was taken her to her mother but boarded a vehicle and took her to his village called Mirigu. So far, pieces of information we picked indicate that the mother of the suspect warned him that if he does not produce a child for her and she dies, he shouldn’t come to the funeral. Maybe that engineered him to do what he did but we are still investigating,” he said.
He also stated that the 5-year-old girl is in good health and returned her to her parents following a check-up at the Walewale Municipal Hospital.
