Hassan Ayariga Slams Dr Bawumia-Digitilize The Cedi And Stop The Noise
The leader and 2020 Presidential candidate of the APC party in Ghana, Hassan Ayariga, has slammed the vice president Mahamudu Bawumia for over glamourizing the digitization of the Ghanaian economy adding that he better digitalise the currency after the quicksand depreciation of the cedi.
Mr Ayariga, in a circular, said the official travel document accepted worldwide is the passport; hence, the move by the government to digitalise the Ghana Card for international travels is unrealistic.
Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, delivering an address at the Ashesi University on Tuesday, announced that efforts are underway to get the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) to recognise the Ghana Card as an e-passport by the first quarter of next year.
When the process is complete, he said, an official ceremony would be held at the headquarters of ICAO in Montreal, Canada, to sign Ghana’s Certificate of Authority to recognise Ghana-Card as e-passports in ICAO countries.
But Mr Ayariga says the Ghana card cannot.be a major travelling or international document accepted globally as the passport.
He said other things are more important and require the attention of the vice president rather than unnecessary things which seem to be occupying his time.
