The Ministry of Information issued a press release to condemn the attack on Benya FM’s Radio presenter Osofo Blessing on Monday, May 16th, 2022 at Elmina.

The Ministry said a report indicating that the presenter was hosting a discussion show concerning the lack of premix fuel and individuals benefiting from it to the detriment of fisherfolk.

He is reported to have been physically assaulted by unnamed men and entered the radio station to disrupt the show.

Deputy minister Fatimatu Abubakar in a conversation with the manager of the station and the District Police Commander (DPC) worked together to investigate the incident and make sure that the suspects are brought to book.

There is no justification for a broadcaster to be assaulted while doing his work.

Any individual group can share their grievances against a broadcast journalist’s comment following legitimate and legal avenues to seek redress, including the right of rejoinder which is guaranteed under Ghana’s 1992 Constitution.

The National Media Commission (NMC) and the court constitute legitimate institutions to register complaints against media practitioners and companies.

The police is supposed to be informed to take necessary legal action when the content has the potential to a security breach.

The Ministry of Information condemn the assault in no uncertain terms and urged the police to probe into vivid account investigation and prosecute the perpetrators accordingly.
