Gov’t Should Do The Right Thing – Toll Booth Workers Cry
Today, July 5, 2022, former toll booth employees in Ghana are starting a protest.
“The government should do the right thing and settle this situation once and for all,” said the Vice President of the Union who addressed the media.
The government has not kept any of its promises to the union representing toll workers.
They were promised reassignment and payment of their salary arrears.
Following a government order to stop toll collecting on countrywide roads and bridges, over 600 employees were let off.
The toll workers claim they have not received compensation since January of this year despite promises to transfer them and pay their salary arrears.
Following a decree from the government to halt toll collecting on the nation’s highways and bridges in November 2021, the toll workers lost their employment.
As a result, the government pledged to pay the impacted employees up until their reassignment.
The workers claim they have not yet received training or been assigned to alternative positions.
