GHC0.15p Fuel Decrease Angers Federation Of Labour
The Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL) has stated that the 0.15 pesewas per litre cut in fuel prices as part of measures to alleviate the impact of rising crude oil prices on the global market is insufficient.
Mr. Abraham Koomson, GFL Secretary-General, told the Ghana News Agency that the 0.15 pesewa reduction in fuel costs is a drop in the ocean when compared to the steady increase in petroleum products this year, which has affected the pricing of other items in the market.
“The high prices of goods and services in the country have eroded the benefits of negotiated salaries and working conditions with employers, there must be more pragmatic interventions by the government to mitigate the impact on workers,” he said.
Mr. Koomson said it was difficult to comprehend the government’s’strategic’ actions, implemented through the finance minister, to salvage the ailing economy and reduce the growing high cost of living.
“We expect a major decrease in the various taxes afflicting the gasoline price determinant, a drastic reduction in the number of ministers and presidential personnel to free up the bloated budget of the executive,” Mr. Koomson stated.
