GBC Owes ECG GH¢15.4 Million
The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) is once again in the spotlight due to unpaid power bills of GH15,420,246.
The state broadcaster was turned off in October of last year after it failed to pay its power distributor.
According to sources, GBC has not demonstrated sufficient commitment to paying its debt, placing it 14th and 15th on an ECG list of 29 extremely indebted consumers slated for disconnection.
The GBC transmission alone owes GH4, 281,342, while the GBC owes GH11, 138,904 to the GBC.
This will be the second, if not the third, time that GBC has faced a similar destiny as a result of non-payment of electrical bills.
ECG has named 29 private and governmental organizations ready to be disconnected from the national grid as part of a special national effort to reclaim part of the enormous debt on its books from clients.
Among the significantly indebted institutions on the list are the Ghana Airport Company, Parliament, UNDP, EOCO, UPSA, Ministry of Communication, Kofi Annan Center, Entrance Pharmacy, and Internal Audit Agency.
ECG has sent “demand or disconnection notices” to the majority of these institutions.
