Gas Cylinder Thief Busted
Muayu Dauda, a 20-year-old Nigerian, was ordered by the Ashaiman Circuit Court to pay a fine of GHS2,400 or serve 12 months in prison with hard labor for stealing two gas cylinders from a ‘chop bar’ (local restaurant) in Ashaiman.
On his own plea of guilty to the accusations of unlawful entry and appropriation of two gas cylinders, the accused Dauda was punished by the court presided over by Mr. Richard Delali Anku.
The prosecutor, Chief Inspector Samuel Aperweh, said the complainant Rebecca Mensah is 65 years old, a trader, and the mother of a market queen at Kuffour Lorry Station in Ashaiman, while the prisoner Dauda is a Nigerian who is unemployed.
The facts of the case were that on January 5th, about 1700 hours, Dauda went to Abdela Hasana Mothers Chop Bar in Ashaiman and stole two GHS 300.00 gas cylinders.
According to the prosecution, the owner of the chop bar, Abdela Hasana, reported the problem to the Market Queen Mother, who then contacted the market’s security officers.
The security officials caught Dauda on January 6, 2022, and during an open interrogation, he admitted to stealing the gas cylinders from Adbela Hasana Mothers Chop Bar and selling them to a certain individual in Fitter-Line, an Ashaiman neighborhood, according to the prosecutor.
According to the Chief Inspector, Dauda took the police to the Fitter-Line, but the receiver was not found; however, the gas cylinders were recovered.
Following the inquiry, Dauda was charged with the crime and appeared in court.
