Court Fines Lady, 24, For Transporting ‘Wee’ To Her Boyfriend In Police Cells
A woman was fined GH2400 by an Accra Circuit Court for attempting to transfer three wrappers of Indian hemp(wee) to her lover, who was detained at the police station.
On August 12, 2021, a lady named Freda Ibrahim is accused of concealing the chemical in a package of food she was giving to her lover, Gyamfi George, who was in detention for robbery.
According to Chief Inspector Bansah’s facts of the case, when she delivered the food to the station, the Station Orderly examined it before giving it over to the suspect but discovered three wraps of Indian hemp wrapped in black polythene concealed in the food.
Freda Ibrahim was detained and charged right away with illegal possession of a narcotic drug in violation of section 31 (1) of the Narcotic Control Commission Act of 2020.
“The accused was quickly detained by Station Orderly W/Constable Ofosu Yeboah Joyce and PW/Sergeant Rita Apau, who were both on duty at the Charge Office as Counter Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs), and immediately informed Station Officer Inspector Rockson Dogbe.”
According to Chief Inspector Bansah, “during interrogation, the accused stated a friend of the accused George Gyamfi named James provided the food for her to be given to the accused person in cells.”
According to sources, she failed to lead police to the alleged James’ arrest, and many attempts by police for the accused and those in custody to show where James was failed.
“They also neglected to assist police with the contact number of the alleged James,” he continued. The accused was charged with the offense to appear before this honorable court after an investigation.”
The exhibit has been sent to the Police Forensic Laboratory for inspection and report, according to Chief Inspector Bansah.
After pleading guilty, the defendant was sentenced to pay a fine of 200 penalty units or serve 6 months in prison.
