Celebrated Taxi Driver Who Returned GH¢8,400 Gets New Job
The Church of Pentecost General Headquarters in Accra, Ghana, has hired 36-year-old Kwesi Ackon, the honest taxi driver who has been praised across the world for returning a large sum of money found in his vehicle to its owner.
Ackon expressed his heartfelt thanks and appreciation to God and the leadership of the church, particularly the Chairman, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, and the General Secretary, Apostle Alexander Nana Yaw Kumi-Larbi, for the opportunity to work at the church’s head office on his first day at work on Thursday, June 16, 2022.
Working in the church’s headquarters, he claims, will strengthen his Christian beliefs and ideals.
“The Church of Pentecost Headquarters thus offers you work as Driver Grade II…”, according to a letter of employment signed by the Human Resource Manager, Elder Samuel Mantey Addo, dated June 15, 2022.
Kwesi Ackon also expressed gratitude to the many Ghanaians who contributed money and stuff to him after hearing about the problem.
Kwesi Ackon’s story went viral a few weeks ago after he returned a sum of GHS 8,400.00 to the owner of a bag he found in the back of his car. On Easter Saturday, he drove the vendor, an elderly fishmonger, from Accra’s Mallam Atta Market to her home in Teshie.
When Kwesi Ackon willingly traced her at her residence on Easter Sunday to deliver the money to her, the old woman, who had no chance of recovering the money, sobbed uncontrollably and showered the blessings of God onto him.
Kwesi Ackon’s act, which was captured on camera, went viral and drew the notice of Vice President of the Republic, His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who gave him GHS 20,000.00. Some organizations and individuals who were moved by the gesture have now donated a variety of items to him, including a brand new Daewoo Matrix from Rev. Lawrence Tetteh.
The Church of Pentecost Headquarters has offered him a job, which is the cherry on top.
Kwesi Ackon is a member of The Church of Pentecost, where he attends the Onyeametease Assembly in the Kokomlemle District of the church’s La Area.
