Businessman Scams Lawyer
The Accra Circuit Court has remanded a businessman who took GHS32,000.00 from a lawyer under the pretext of securing him a Land Rover Jeep Vehicle from the Dutch Embassy but failed.
However, 47 years old Mr. Mahmoud Odaymat was charged with defrauding by pretense but pleading not guilty.
The Lawyer for the accused person pleaded for bail but the prosecution reject the bail on the justification that the accused person was a ‘fright risk’ as he was not a citizen of the country and might not appear before the court for trial.
Mr. Emmanuel Essandoh presided over the court and upheld the submission of the prosecution and remanded the accused person into Ankaful prison to reappear on July 27, 2022.
Moreover, the Prosecutor Deputy Superintendent of Police, Agustus Yirenkyi, and Inspector Pobee inform the court that the complainant is a Lawyer and live at Kaneshie.
The Prosecutor said the accused person is alleged to be a businessman and resides in Adabraka.
Mr. Yirenkyi said that in 2019, the accused person went to the complainant and introduced himself as a worker of the Dutch Embassy and will help him buy a vehicle from the Embassy.
The prosecutor said that based on the accused person’s introduction, he collected an amount of GHS32,000.00 from the complainant to buy him Land Rover Jeep vehicle from the Embassy within one week period.
Mr. Yirenkyi said the accused person has failed to fulfill his promise to deliver the car or the money back.
However on July 13, 2022, the accused person was arrested after the complainant follow up and handed him over to the police.
