Bolgatanga Technical Institute closed down after rioting students clash with security over exams malpractice.
Students of the school have been asked to vacate the school premises with immediate effect.
Speaking to the media, the Upper East Regional Minister and Chairman of the Regional security council, Stephen Yakubu, noted that closing down the school is in the best interest of everyone until calm, law and order is returned to the campus.
“We are going to allow the final year students to come in only when they have a paper to write,” he noted.
He said those rooting students will be dealt with according to the law.
Reports say the rioting started after some students were identified and arrested for engaging in exams malpractice.
This according to sources did not go down well with the student body who decided to protest the arrest. It was during the protest that some school property were destroyed prompting authorities to call in the police that also led to a clash.
Police personnel were forced to fire warning shots and tear gas to control the students.
