Bagbin Orders Probe Into Islamic SHS, Police Clash
Alban Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, has authorized a fact-finding committee to report to the House on the circumstances surrounding a fight between police and students at Kumasi’s Islamic Senior High School (SHS).
The Speaker has given the Committee till Tuesday, June 21, 2022, after speaking bluntly about the recurrence of security-civilian aggression.
As a result, Mr. Bagbin has directed the Defense and Interior Committees to relocate to the school, as well as the police and the family, to come in and furnish the House.
The orders came after the Minority Chief Whip and Asawase Member of Parliament, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, delivered a statement on the event that transpired on Monday.
Frank Annoh Dompreh, the Majority Chief Whip, also condemned the incident and urged the police to act quickly in their inquiry.
Following a brawl between enraged students and crowd-control officers, at least 30 students were taken to the hospital.
The youngsters were protesting pedestrian collisions involving some of the school’s students and professors.
