Arise Ghana Demonstrator Goes Blind
During the Arise Ghana event a few weeks ago, a member of the advocacy group got hit by a few rubber bullets in the eye.
In a press conference, the founder of Arise Ghana, Bernard Mornarh, informed the media and the public that one of their members had been shot multiple times in the eye on June 28, 2022, during a peaceful demonstration, as a result of the Ghana police service’s rampant use of plastic bullets to try to stop the crowd from approaching the jubilee house.
The sufferer, identified as Nii Ayi Mensah, was rushed to the Korle Bu Teaching hospital and was later determined by the eye specialist to be permanently blind in the right eye.
Bernard Mornarh lamented the incident and attributed it to the national security’s inept handling of crowd control, which resulted in the injury of more than 93 defenseless and unarmed peaceful protestors.
He also reaffirmed that the police, acting on orders from the president, were actually the ones to start the violence by shooting stones, rubber bullets, and tear gas onto unwary protestors.
In light of this, the advocacy group, Arise Ghana insists that they would keep putting pressure on the New Patriotic Party, which is now led by Nana Addo, to ensure that the current terrible economy is brought back to a manageable state for the average Ghanaian person.
