Aisha Huang, 3 Others Denied Bail

Aisha Huang, the galamsey queen, was denied bail by the Accra Circuit Court 9.

The famed illegal miner is on trial alongside three other Chinese nationals, Jong Li Hua, Huang Jei, and Huaid Hai Hun. They are all accused of engaging in illicit mineral sales and purchases as well as unlawful mining.

The prosecution claimed that more time was required to complete the investigation.

Nkrabea Effah Dartey, the defense attorney, questioned what other investigations remained.

He questioned what more inquiry was still needed after reminding the court that the accused had previously been held without bail for 14 days.

Additionally, he charged that Godfred Dame, the Attorney General, had enlisted the help of the judges at the Bar Conference in order to successfully prosecute the case.

Nkrabea Effah Dartey questioned why the head of the Ghanaian Bar would betray the case in such a biased manner.

The former NPP representative for Berekum and retired military captain pleaded with the court to avoid allowing public rumors about the Executive’s influence in the case.

In his statement to the court, he warned that granting bail will be portrayed in the media as the court caving in to the wishes of President Nana Akufo-Addo and his Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame.

However, the court headed by His Honor Samuel Bright Appiah reasoned that the situation had grown to be of interest to the general public both at home and abroad.

Therefore, His Honor remanded them back to detention with a September 27 appearance date.
