8 Killed, Many Others Injured In Raid At Yendi
At least eight persons were reported dead and five others were injured after unknown gunmen invaded the nomadic villages of Zakoli and Konkon in the Yendi district of the Northern Region on Wednesday evening.
The event occurred on Wednesday afternoon, according to reports, and numerous thatched dwellings and other properties were set ablaze.
On motorbikes, the gunmen are claimed to have attacked the neighborhoods and started fire on the residents.
Only men, even male minors, were allegedly targeted.
Superintendent Richardson Kumeko, the Yendi Divisional Police Commander, confirmed the incident to the media and stated the deceased had been sent to the Yendi Government Hospital morgue, while the injured were being treated at the same hospital.
While an investigation into the attack is underway, police forces have been sent to the neighbourhood to preserve calm.
The reason for the attacks on the two nomadic settlements is unknown.
According to sources, a robbery attack occurred on the Yendi-Tatale route on Tuesday night, resulting in the death of a young guy.
