64-Year-Old Woman Gains Admission to SHS
Rita Offin, a 64-year-old mother of seven, is one of the hundreds of students who have been accepted into Ghana’s Senior High Schools (SHS).
The sexagenarian began her studies on Monday, April 11, 2022, at Christ The King Senior High School (CKC) in Obuasi, where she had been accepted.
Madam Offin took the Basic Education Certificate Examination in the year 2021.
According to her, the difficulties she has had in her trade as someone who cannot read or write influenced her choice to return to school.
Despite being mocked from the start, she defied all odds to enroll in class four at Independence School Brahabebome, Obuasi, at the age of 57.
She expressed her excitement for the next chapter of her schooling in an interview with Adom News, saying she wishes for nothing but the best.
She added that she will not be inhibited or concerned about any ridicule or other treatment she may receive and that all she prays to God for is long life and vigor.
James Kwaku Brefo, the assistant headmaster in charge of administration, said she would be a role model for her fellow pupils at C.K.C.
He urged the entire student body to follow her lead and take their studies seriously.
Some of the first-year students expressed their delight at meeting her and praised her for taking such a risk.
