5 Busted For Engaging In Illegal Sand Winning
Five people have been detained in Gonsie, a suburb of the Weija Gbawe Municipality in the Greater Accra Region, for illicit sand winning activities.
The individuals were apprehended on Thursday evening in an operation conducted by Patrick Kumor, the Municipal Chief Executive.
Mr. Kumor described the arrest as a combination police-military operation aimed at disrupting persons who operate at night.
“It was an ambush, and the suspects had no chance of escaping.”
They had no choice but to cooperate after the cops fired warning rounds at them.
“The Assembly works during the day, so you don’t see them,” he explained, “and their operations are largely at night.”
Mr. Kumor criticized the miners’ actions, which he claimed are ruining roads in the area and could result in a mudslide.
Meanwhile, he has stated the suspects would shortly be arraigned.
