2022 World Cup: CAF Official Dies Following Stampede After Nigeria – Ghana Game
Joseph Kabungo, the Zambian doping officer for the game between Ghana’s Black Stars and Nigeria’s Super Eagles, was reported dead shortly after the game ended.
The cause of death has yet to be determined, and the Nigerian Football Federation has yet to issue an official report.
Kabungo, a Zambian doctor, was alleged to have died shortly after Ghana eliminated Nigeria from the 2022 World Cup qualifying round on Tuesday.
According to accounts, Kabungo died as a result of a stampede inside the Moshood Abiola National Stadium before the start of the match.
Another account, on the other hand, blamed the doctor’s death on the supporters’ invasion of the pitch after the game.
After being brought to the hospital, British-Nigerian journalist Osasu Obayiuwana tweeted that his death had been verified.
Dr. Kabungo’s tragedy, however, was caused by the unruly audience who pummeled and trod on him after the game concluded, according to Ghanaian journalist Collins Atta Poku, who witnessed the entire affair.
